Currently resident in Kyiv, Ukraine and have spent the last 17 years working on economic development projects in CEEC (Central & Eastern European Countries) mainly on behalf of the EU: Czech Republic 1994/95 – lived & worked in Plzen and Prague. It was a shitty job as a first foray into international development but someone had to do it.......
Georgia 1995 – lived & worked in Kutaisi in western Georgia (passing through Tbilisi on the way in/out – oh the delights, the sights, the sounds and especially the smells of that old Soviet-era terminal building; and the Tupolev 34a that at the time was the only plane flying into Georgia from Europe). And something of a cultural & experiential contrast to the previous job in the Czech Republic……….. North-West Russia 1996-99 – lived & worked in St Petersburg, Gatchina, Vyborg, Tikhvin. Shorter working visits to Tosno, Lodeynoye Pole and Luga (I won’t hurry back to Luga any time soon!). A fantastic time in a superlative city. Also worked at the same time as a tree surgeon in South Wales, which turned out to be an ideal combination of brain and brawn. Happy, happy days…..
Ukraine 1999-now – lived & worked in: Kyiv, Kirovograd, Mykolayiv, Ivano Frankivsk, & Lutsk. Shorter working visits to: Bila Tserkva, Lviv, Ternopil, Vinnitsa, Poltava, Donetsk, Dnepropetrovsk, Kremenchuk, Krivoy Rog, Cherkassy, Uzhgorod, Odessa, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Yalta, Sumy, Lugansk.
Macedonia 2002 – lived and worked in Ohrid & Tetovo, with shorter working visit to Gostivar.
Moldova 2002 & 2004 – lived & worked in Ungheni, with short stays in Chisinau on the way in and out.
Bosnia Herzegovina 2002 – lived and worked for a short time in Sarajevo.
Married to the very ickle, but very lovely Lyudmila: still carrying a bit too much weight and (crosses fingers) healthy enough.
